The Philosophy
The Pray With Africa movement is built on a simple philosophy: Learn. Pray. Act. True community exists only when each of these steps are taken. We encourage individuals to learn about the people of Africa, pray with them and put feet on those prayers through action.
Learn.
We believe in the importance of story. We invite people around the world to learn not just about the issues the people of Africa face but to actually learn more about the stories of the people facing these difficult issues. Only when we listen to people’s stories and learn their realities can we begin to build community.
Pray.
Prayer is powerful, and we invite the world to come together and pray with one another instead of praying only for each other. Often when we pray for people in other parts of the world, we assume we know their deepest needs. When we hear the prayers of people, however, then we can join them in a powerful conversation with God.
Act.
As we learn each others’ stories and begin praying each others’ prayers, we believe that then, and only then, we are ready to act. Our actions can then be born out of our prayers. You may feel motivated to act locally and change something in your immediate community. Or maybe you are called to act with our new friends in Africa. Pray With Africa partners people with organizations in Africa who are making a difference in their neighborhoods.
